Yippeeee! It's always a good day when hard work pays off and a wedding I've photographed gets featured on an amazing wedding blog. On Monday, Kat who runs the totally cool Rock N Roll Bride featured Brooke and Phil's gorgeous Indutrial style wedding. It's really great to be able to get my work out there to a wider audience, and Brook and Phil get to have a little 15 minutes of fame! I photograph so many weddings each year, and they are all so lovely and special, each in their own different ways. Sometimes there is something quite unusual about a wedding's styling and setting that it makes for brilliant viewing for bride and grooms to be on these wedding blogs and in wedding magazines. So here's the link to the feature, happy viewing!
Evie and Claire are two of the most friendly, chilled out people you could ever meet. For their wedding, I had no doubt that the day would be packed full of laughter and fun...and it was, all day, for every minute. The day started out with Evie and Claire finishing off the country-fair-esque decor in Cracoe village hall - loads of bunting hung in rows from the roof, completed with mismatched tea cups and wild flowers adorning the long tables. Guests slowly arrived with smiles and dished out massive hugs for the both of them. Their ceremony started with a unique move from the both of them, with Evie and Claire walking into the ceremony area together and their Mums close behind. It was a beautiful and refreshing humanist ceremony, including handfasting and a very moving shared speech made by both of the Dads. Garden games including horseshoe throwing, sack racing, egg and spoon race and beanbag throwing kept the guests thoroughly entertained in the afternoon! Then it was time for some proper Yorkshire Afternoon Tea, with scrummy food stacked high on cake tiers. I had to chuckle to myself the whole time I was photograping the after dinner spectacle that was the Bake Off...A pure genius idea for a wedding day! Guests brought homemade masterpieces in to be judges by Evie and Claire - who, to be fair, were pretty harsh critics. The results were in, and each winner recieved a custom made spoon, with the overall winner lucky enough to be crowned Star Baker with her very own apron!
India and Dave tied the knot over the weekend at a little known, but seriously special wedding venue called Gibson Mill. Located in the picturesque town of Hebden Bridge, Gibson Mill can be found nestled in the beautiful woodlands of Hard Castle Craggs and is the perfect place for an intimite wedding ceremony. As the day unfolded I got to know how what a sweet and loving couple these two are; nothing shows how much the moment meant more than when India cried through the whole ceremony - it was so endearing.
When I met Anna and John for their engagement session before their wedding, I couldn't get over how beautiful the light and location was for it. I was equally blown away by the whole wedding day experience with them in Robin Hoods Bay at the weekend. Anna wore possbily the most stunning Jenny Packham wedding dress I've ever seen. It was covered in beautiful gemstone and sequin detailing, and in the sunshine it just looked magical. The view from the reception venue, The Victoria Hotel , at the top of the cliffside was simply the best view I've ever seen on a wedding day before.
I've known Brooke and Phil for a few years now through one of my good friends, and I was lucky enough to get to photograph their gorgeous wedding last month at The Arches in Dean Clough, Halifax. Such a cool venue, and a super cool bride and groom to go with it. This day was so stylish from start to finish and full of special touches and moments that were so unique to anything else I've ever seen before. I mean, have you ever seen a Wainhouse Tower wedding cake before!? They also passed their rings around the ceremony guests to make a wish for them, which was such a sweet idea! Check out the highlights video to see what their beautiful day was like...
After being in the wedding industry for a good few years now, I've got to know some pretty special suppliers. There are a handful of people who I can hand on heart reccommend to do the most brilliant job for your wedding day, and one of those is Claire Bush from Sweet Sugar Sixpence. We've become great friends over the years and I always look forward to what her next cake creation will be. Every design is bespoke, which makes it all the more special and unique. I have ordered several cakes for my children from Claire and I'm always picking my jaw up off the floor when I first lay eyes on them! The cakes are always stunning, inventive and best of all they taste gorgeous. If you haven't ordered a wedding cake yet, then have a look through the gallery and you can see the cake awesomeness for yourself! http://happilyevercaptured.pixieset.com/sweetsugarsixpence/
Karen and Jody's wedding was to die for!! The first time I met both of them I knew that their wedding would be something extra special. Karen was so passionate about her ideas, and they were both so excited to make time and show their enthusiasm for their bride and groom portaits; on the day it was so easy to find beautiful things, moments and people to photograph. All that, as well as the beautiful Summer sun to compliment the day! Karen and Jody were not only passionate about their wedding ideas which included their lovely 'sneak peek' romantic meet up before they actually got married, their table full of guest-made cakes for dessert and a stunning blue pattenered background for their ceremony, but they are so so in love! They are a very sweet family with their gorgeous little boy, and I'm so happy I got to be there for this wedding - I know I'm not allowed to have favourite's but this was certainly a highlight of 2015...
Tom and Rachel's wedding had the prettiest styling I've seen in a long time! Tom's Dad painstakingly hand spray-painted all of the gold vinyl placemats! Wow, they were worth it! They went perfectly with the cute music sheet jars that were filled with a mixture of beautiful blush florals. We were treated to glorious sunshine for the whole wedding day, leaving plenty of time for outdoor drinking and relaxing to the incredible voice of Joe Moore (who Tom and Rachel spotted while he was busking, before inviting him to perform at their wedding!).
More from this amazing wedding coming soon...
2015 Has been full of beautiful, fun, sunny weddings so far! I've been having a fantastic time meeting all you lovely couples and your funny friends and families. There's so much to share in the next few weeks; there will be a big handful of new weddings going up in the gallery when I can catch my breath! If you ever want to use any props at your wedding or engagement session then feel free to bring things along like Sam and David did on their wedding day pictured above - perfect to put on their Thankyou cards for their guests.
I'm sharing a bit of 1920's bridal inspiration on the blog today! These are just a few images from the beautiful styled shoot we created at Heaton Mount in Bradford earlier this year. Venue styling was done by Donna from Ambience Venue Styling Bradford, the stunning dresses and accessories were provided by Evelyn Taylor bridal, with make-up by Pure Bliss mobile beauty.
Last month I had a fantastic time getting together with Claire Bush from Sweet Sugar Sixpence to plan an Autumn themed wedding inspiration shoot. We wanted to get lots of local businesses involved, and create something that was much more relaxed than the traditional wedding day scenario. We both love the colours and activities that Autumn brings, so went for a colourful, cosy, textured feel to the day.
The funniest moment of wedding season 2014 happened at Sarah and Tom's wedding last weekend! We were shooting the group shots at The Red Lion in Burnsall, when one of the best man's leg's went straight through the table. Their wedding was packed out with other hilaroius moments, but this was my favourite...
There's been a tonne of happy moments in the past few months, and I just wanted to share a few highlights which will be coming to the website soon!
This includes the cosy Autumn styled shoot which brought a very talented group of local entrepreneurs together, to create something extra special to put out into the world and show everyone what we are all about!
There's been a couple of brand new babies to get soppy over; always turns me to mush! I can't get enough of those sweet little new faces...
The Spookybooth went down a treat at last week's Halloween party for the kids at Hipperholme Junior School! You all looked brilliant in your costumes posing for the camera!
Andrew and Rachael are due to marry next month, and are having their reception at the perfectly cosy Turnpike Inn, in Rishworth. We headed out to one of my favourite engagement session spots in Halifax - Norland Moor. The clouds were so dramatic, and when we found the little farmers hut, I couldn't resist getting them in front of it! We had a fun morning wading through long grass and jumping around in the middle of the road (!!).
Engagement sessions are all about us all getting to know each other better, and making sure that on your wedding day you've got no reservations about the photography side of things at all. Everyone seems to feel so much more at ease afterwards, and of course you'll have a gorgeous set of photo's to treasure from before you were married. You can order a beautiful signing board from us, which features your favourite engagement session image professionally printed and framed inside a 20"x16" mount board, ready for your guests to leave their best wishes for you on your wedding day. Or some people get really creative with their photo's and add them to scrapbooks, slideshows or montages.
I was so happy to meet up with the lovely Jess and Dave for their engagement session recently. Jess and I had exchanged a fair few emails in the lead up, so it was so good to finally meet and we all got on so well straight away (always a great sign of a fantastic photo shoot!). We headed up to a nice spot in Barkisland, and then snook out to the heather at Norland moor to do the last few shots before it pelted it down! For me, the highlight features of the shoot were Dave's girly posing and their inabilty to keep a straight face - smiley, happy people are so much fun to photograph... not to mention the wondeful, gorgeous, baby bump that Jess was sporting very fashionably! The baby in question will be due at the end of October and lucky for me I will be doing his first photoshoot, so watch this space. Of course, I'll be having fingers crossed for the same hair colour as Jess. He will be one seriously cute newborn!
Imagine their little boy in 50 years time looking back through these photo's of his Mum and Dad. How lucky will he feel to have such special memories of them... Really that is the absolute most brilliant thing about photography; sharing a story. I love being part of telling your story!
It's not every day that you get to photograph your best friends wedding! Well, at the weekend I did exactly that, and it was the most perfect and magical day ever! Francesqa is my best friend from high school. She moved to Australia two years ago with Richard for a life in the sun, so when they came back to England for the wedding, it was a week of madness! Their wedding took place at a fairly unknown venue; Mirfield Monestary, which holds host to a sensational reception room, masses of gardens and some very cool architecture. I hope you all love these preview photo's as much as me...
When peak wedding season is in full swing, things get a little quiet on the blog! There are so many amazing memories to share from this Summer's weddings. Keep coming back to check for updates - some very beautiful people, places and details to see coming soon!
A few months ago, I blogged a photo of Danielle and Chris from their engagement session. Now there's been a new arrival since then, and this week I had the pleasure of photographing their precious newborn daughter Sofia. She was a dream to work with, and her Mum and Dad are doing a fantastic job at being new parents!
Yorkshire Dales wedding alert! Christine and Alisdair's Devonshire Fell wedding was a barrel of laughs and full of beautiful things to photograph. Check out the stunning lavender topped wedding cake and some intense microphone action going on here...
Wow! What an eventful day Nathan and Victoria's wedding was! Everthing you could picture in a fairytale wedding was happening right in front of my eyes. As soon as I saw Victoria on the morning of the wedding I couldn't believe my luck at getting to photograph such a stunning bride! With the calmness you'd expect from a pediatric nurse, Victoria took everything in her stride throughout the whole day.
The ceremony took place at St George's Church in Leeds. With it's huge, beautiful stained glass windows behind the altar, it was a spectacular place to say 'I do'!
Watch this space for more photo's of their wonderful wedding which finished off at The Yorkshire Sculpture Park for their reception overlooking the countryside.
What an amazing two days I got to spend with Yvonne and Rob last week. We met up for a pre-wedding session on Friday, followed straight after by their very funny and intimate wedding ceremony at Leeds Town Hall. It was great to see two people so happy in each other company, they really do make each other smile - a lot!
On Saturday the photography started at Von's hairdressers, with a random trip back to the house to photograph 'the kids' (two cats, a huge fluffy white bunny and inquisitive parrot!). There was mention that if they'd have done it all their way, then the kids would have been at the ceremony! So, I'm glad they are going to be in the photo album at least!
The day just got better and better, once everyone was in full wedding attire, we headed out on the rickety old green vintage bus to the spectacular venue that is Kirkstall Abbey. The weather went a bit like this; very sunny, rain, very sunny, rain, cloudy....then mid-ceremony - humongous rain storm, brollies inside out type of weather! Everyone took it in their stride and found the whole thing hilarious, and the mood at the ceremony was wonderful! There is something very epic about watching a couple in love, saying their vows under the towering heights of the Abbey, with the huge open-air window for their backdrop. What an amazing memory for them to have of their wedding day...
Here's the happy couple with their wedding date film releases outside the cinema!
At the weekend I met up with Danielle and Chris, whose wedding will be captured in Leeds next year. Danielle chose a fab location called Golden Acre Park, in Leeds, which is the first park with free parking I've visited in a very long time...(boring fact, but true!). I have to say that I'm not sure either of them realise just how 'seriously good looking' (zoolander style...!) they are, but I was really impressed how a couple who said they didn't really like having their photo's taken, managed to work the camera like a couple of pro's! I'm sharing this gorgeous image of the three of them to show great they look together. I did say three, there's a special arrival due in 8 weeks which made the photo session even more special. Always delighted to be able to turn an engagement session into something even more special with children, bumps and special props that have sentimental value!
You may notice a few changes have happened here recently! We lanched the new 2014 website last week, with massive thanks to web expert Danny (my hubby!) who has transformed the old site into something amazing. We really hope you love it as much as we do! There's a tonne of photo sessions to be added in the galleries, so please keep coming back to see more work. In the meantime, wedding dates are literally going like hot cakes, and booking far in advance is the best way to make sure you get the vendors you really want for your wedding. There's no such thing as booking too early as far as anything wedding related is concerned; better to be safe than sorry!
If you're local to Halifax, then I reccommend paying a visit to Dazzlin Diva in Elland! They sell all kinds of unusual accessories, and their handbags are fantastic. You're guaranteed to find something sparkly to take home. I'm happy to say that my good friend and amazing local Burly girl Lulu Macaroon is Dazzlin Diva's cover model! Watch this space for more sparkles and pouts coming soon!
Those teeny toes only stay that way for such a small amount of time, so when you've got the absolute joy of having a new baby it's important to savour every moment! That's if you can focus past the bleary eyes and mountains of housework piling up! There are so many beautiful things to remember about those first few months; that gorgeous newborn smell, their silky soft skin and tiny little features...(sigh....!).
Chevonne already has two incredibly beautiful daughters, and recently added a third beauty to the family with little Isla. I think everyone will agree that she's an absolute sweetheart!
Love is in the air, and so was the sunshine at Yvette and Luke's blossom themed engagement session last weekend! Seriously loved-up and happy, they were so cute together! Wait until you see the rest of the session... Until then, here's one of the favourites. Without a doubt, their wedding will be just as magical as this photo!
As I make my way through editing a wedding collection, I get a little over-excited! Gemma has given the ok to share these few images of her and Mark together - don't they both look incredible!? I love my job so much, this was yet another amazing wedding day which I will never forget.
I had the pleasure of shooting Gemma and Mark's beautiful daughter Lola last Summer, while they were relaxing with friends at Manor Heath Park. We kept in touch and last week I had the most wonderful time photographing their truly amazing wedding day. The dress, the venue, the handmade decorations and flowers were all magnificent.
There are so many emotion-packed images from their special day, and I can't wait to share them with the happy couple! For now, here are a few little glimpses into some of the magic... and 'just wait until you see her' - it's really worth the wait, Gemma was absolutely picture perfect on her wedding day!
Spending time with different families is one of the highlights of this amazing job! I get to meet so many interesting people, and love listening to their stories and seeing how much they all care about each other.
Just after Christmas I met up with the Scott family at Elaine and David's house in Greetland. When the extreme rain and wind stopped our plans to photograph up at Norland Moor, we headed to the neighbouring field for a while and did the rest of the shoot inside the house. Elaine and David's son Steve treated the whole family to the photo session for Christmas. Some really special moments were captured and a lot of funny faces from the boys! Here's a small selection from their 'Ever After Session'.
Mick and Caz are a fun-loving Yorkshire couple, married this month at Leeds Town Hall on a rainy but very happy day! Caroline spent hours (and days no doubt!) making her beautifully unique wedding dress. Her lovely Mum made her sweet little fabric boquet. Their family and friends were so welcoming, and it truly was a pleasure to photograph them all on such a special day. The reception venue was the country-cosy Cross Keys in Leeds, where guests were treated to a liquor hot chocolate upon arrival! Here's a few I wanted to share that make me smile...
Do you remember all the birthday parties your parents would do for you as a kid?
Maisy's Mum, Claire, is a complete party mastermind! She never fails to disappoint when it comes to creating unique themes for her children's parties. She put on a Sylvanian Family theme for Maisy's 7th birthday, which included gorgeous little pinnies for all the girls, lace-strung balloons, Sylvanian characters for all the little guests and the most gorgeous chocolate 'acorns' a party favours.
You may recognise this gorgeous couple from a short and seriously sweet wedding last Summer. Coming to the decision to marry the love of your life is usually a very easy decision, made so by the depth of feelings you hold for each other. Getting to that point of complete togetherness does of course come with it's ups and downs for most of us, but it's those ups and downs that build the relationship and make it what it is.
Mark and Paula are so much fun to be around! We had such a giggle doing this countryside engagement session. They are very lucky to live in Greetland, which is a stunning part of Yorkshire. They live right next to open fields, little country lanes, and some epic sized trees! A few moments of gale force wind and rain was all it took to give us a Wuthering Heights feel to some of the pictures. I have to say, Paula was working that camera lens! Such a beautiful lady - Mark is a very lucky man! They are a fantastically suited couple and I can't wait to show the rest of their engagement photographs.
We now offer photobooth's for your Wedding! Please ask for more information if you like what you see in this post.
I love a good excuse for a celebration - especially when it involves dressing up in a dramtic outfit and seeing other people do the same! It was Halloween last week, and the 'Dark Side of Disney Party' did not disappoint! Everyone had clearly had their thinking caps on for the whole of October to come up with their amazing creations. I was in portrait heaven, taking shots in the 'Spooksbooth' of the most wierd and wonderful characters this side of Halifax! http://www.facebook.com/happilyevercaptured
There's not much else that can make me turn to mush like a newborn baby does. Little Dylan James Alifie Gray was no disappointment, with his teeny hands and feet, scrumptious little button nose and dark black hair. I could have photographed him all day and never got fed up! His proud Mummy and Daddy Jem and Jonathan were a massive help in keeping Dylan calm, and he was alseep for the whole time we were photographing him. We did manage to catch him right at the end (after packing everything away!), in the safe arms of his Dad, showing off his beautiful sparkly eyes.
That excited, newly engaged feeling, with your special sparkly ring is amazing. I remember how much I would stare at mine, trying to make it sparkle in the light as often as I could. I literally used to purposefully brush my hand down my face to show off my ring, I loved it so much! We didn't hire a photographer on our wedding day (5 years ago...what were we thinking!?), and I never got the 'ring shots' on my wedding day. So, as a little self-indulgent gift to myself, I photographed my wedding rings today. These are my favourite picks out of the set ups I tried out... still so pretty! Can you guess how much I LOVE photographing engagement rings?!
Meet one of my oldest and most treasured friends, Francesqa. We were serious partners in crime at high school and I couldn't be more excited that I will be photographing her special day next year. Her finance Richard is a romantic soul, and never fails to impress - he even proposed on a beautiful secluded beach in Australia...how could she resist that!? They have found such an intruiguing and picturesque location for their August 2014 wedding. Mirfield Monastery had me in awe of it's impressive architecture and variety of different gardens. We managed to grab a quick half hour to take some special shots around the gardens...watch this space for more coming soon. It'll be a feast for your eyes next year when you get to see the rest of the place!
At the weekend I got together with these beautiful, vibrant and fun girls who have been great friends for over 20 years. I had so much fun, my cheeks were hurting at the end of the session from laughing so much.
I'll leave you with what Claire said... ''Time together is precious these days and life often gets in the way of us meeting up so at the start of the year we made a promise to each other that once a month we'd do something special, just the three of us - this was real quality time together which I think Georgia has captured perfectly!... 20 odd years of friendship and we finally have some photos to be proud of.''
You are more than welcome lovely ladies - I enjoyed evey minute X
The Spring sunshine finally decided to show its face for our recent mini sessions event at Manor Heath Park. The daffodils were out, and the park was lovely and warm - a perfect day for photographing some seriously cute faces! Each child we photographed were absolutley gorgeous - and I'm sure their parents must be so proud looking through the stunning photographs we captured on the day. Here's a few of the favourites from each session.
